Physical characteristics : Small mouth 1 or 2 millimetres. Its wings are not proportioned and covered in hair.

Behaviour : They are found in large numbers in and around drains and faucets.

Diet : They feed on organic matter such as grease, food, mud and all that accumulates in tubing and sewers.

Reproduction : The female lays 20 to 200 eggs that hatch in less than 2 days. The larva feeds off of organic matter that has built up in the plumbing. The larva will become become an adult after 10 to 15 days.
