Pavement ant

Latin name : Tetramorium caespitum

Physical characteristics : Small, light brown to black color.

Behaviour : It's name comes from the fact that it enjoys digging small holes in sidewalks and all asphalt. Their nests are easily recognizable by the bundle of accumulated sand at it's entrance.These types of ants are all equal in size and each colony can hold thousands. It is possible for them to digg their nests in empty holes of buildings or even underneath a concrete slab, this makes getting rid of them very difficult.

Diet : Omnivorous ; feeds itself of many different types of food, but prefers fatty and sweet food.

Reproduction : A colony can be between 1000 to 4000 individuals. This colony can hold more than one queen. The winged procreators both male and female, usually come out in june or july but they stay active when indoors.
